City of Guts and Lead Items (III)
MACHINE GUN
Introduced to warfare by the Cointeaux in the last decade, this weapon heralded the downfall of the Hanni Empire just as much as their decades of stagnation and botched reforms. During the doomed push across the Liberator Mountains, the elite vanguard of the Hanni Expeditionary Forces were pinned down for days by a combination of artillery and machine gunners in the Valley of Reason. The best trained and equipped of the Imperial expeditionary force were all but completely destroyed following a merciful coup de grace by a small flanking force of Cointeaux Storm Troopers. This event, known to Hanni Royalists as simply 'The Collapse', led to the birth of ten saints. What was most striking about these saints is that while eight concerned protection from the machine gun, none were dedicated to the use of the weapon.
Afterall, what more protection could a machinegunner need?
MACHETE
A heavy short blade used for farming, industry, and increasingly to slit the throats of forces encroaching on Reedfolk land.
The Reedfolk claim that once all men came from the same Mother Goddess. As a result of sickness and injury, she hacked and hacked at herself until she was naught but a mere fragment of herself. From this violent process, all the races and tribes of man emerged. Some dream of reuniting as one people again, but the violence required for such an outcome is even greater than the force which rendered them separate.
GUTS PITON
These are prized objects for those seeking out or being sought out by The Guts. The primordial chaos of The Guts destabilizes all that it touches. To ensure safe exit from the Guts or a safe harbor within it, these unwieldy logs are driven into the ground carved with symbols and writings that remind the world of its own rules. Whether these be prayers, equations, boasts, histories, or personal memories if carved with a blade from within the Guts then these paltry symbols reject the entropy of reality. Creatures and individuals lost within the Guts react violently to these objects, it is also not unheard of for rival Guts Divers to steal or vandalize the Pitons of rival expeditions.
